Worship Service – May 3

Opening Words

As you light a candle:
Why do we light this candle?
To remember that Jesus is with us.

Call to Worship:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart,  and you will find rest for your souls.”
—Matthew 11:28-29, NIV

Prayer of Confession:
Merciful God, you promise to provide everything we need for our physical and spiritual well-being. Yet we confess we often act like it’s all up to us and try to secure our health and our salvation by our hard work. Forgive us when we think we deserve better, or that we’ve earned the blessings you have poured out on us in your grace. Help us to quiet our souls in your presence, and rest in your provision.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
—1 Peter 2:24, NRSV

Hear the good news: In Jesus, we are redeemed by the blood of the eternal covenant. Our sins are forgiven, and we are restored to the God who comforts us! Thanks be to God!

We Hear the Word of God

Parting

Song:

Parting Prayer: God go before you to lead you, God go behind you to protect you, God go beneath you to support you, God go beside you to befriend you. Do not be afraid. May the blessing of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be upon you. Do not be afraid. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Amen.
