A Great Day!
On Saturday Feb 3rd, the Cadets travelled to an area south of Listowel for their annual Snow Derby. Cold temperatures did not cool their enthusiasm, as the boys and Counsellors Murray, and Murray, turned up dressed warmly and ready to compete!
The morning activities consisted of the individual stations that the Cadets had to pull their sled to, with all the equipment that they needed to do the test at the individual station. Activities included first aid, shelter building, which included the knots and lashing, compass and map reading, trail signs, cliff rescue, a mystery station, axemanship, and a sled race.
A warm lunch of pulled pork, chips and hot chocolate gave renewed energy for the big event of the afternoon. The boys had to build a fire, and get a 48 ounce juice can full of water to a rolling boil.
The boys took home first prize at the mystery station, which was shooting a puck into a small container, and a third place ribbon in the sled race. Everyone enjoyed the day, and are looking forward to improving their skills, enough to bring home trophies next year!
